When my computer is booting up there is a screen headed "Verifying DMI Pool Data........".
About half way down this screen is the following comment:
"Supported Video Card not detected - Installation aborted".
This happened after I replaced my original video card (S3 Trio 3D/2X) with a new video card (GeForce4 MX440 with AGP 8X).
My computer appeared to be running perfectly OK but the "error" message concerned me.
My AGP slot is 2X and I thought this may have been the problem so I thought I'd try a PCI Type video card (PowerColor Radeon R9000 RV25P-B3). However, the "error" message was still in the DMI Pool Data as previously.

I'd really appreciate some advice on how to rectify this apparent error. Thanks heaps in advance.

About my Computer:
CPU: Pentium III 866MHz.
Memory: 640MB RAM
Motherboard: OCTEK Rhino VAP133-ACP (Full details available at www.octek.com.au)
Chipsets: VIA 82C693A and 82C596B (PC-133)
Slots: 4xPCI, 3xISA and AGP (2x)
Operating System: Windows 98SE
BIOS: Award Software Inc. Version 2K080. (Includes the built-in DMI utility Software)

The Desktop Management Interface (DMI) is a new method of managing computers in an enterprise. The main component of DMI is the Management Information Format Database, or MIFD (the DMI Pool Data). This database contains all the information about the computing system and its components.

At times, some systems may experience a hang condition after partitioning, formatting and initial boot-up of a hard drive. In Windows 95 and 98, changes to the motherboards BIOS settings, changes in hard drives or to hard drive settings alters this pool data. The message, "Verifying DMI Pool Data" appears and the system hangs. This condition may continue even after the physical drive has been removed from the system.

In your case "This happened after I replaced my original video card (S3 Trio 3D/2X) with a new video card (GeForce4 MX440 with AGP 8X"

My AGP slot is 2X what setting do you have in your BIOS (SETUP)..?

Hi Murf,
Thanks for your interest in my problem.

In my BIOS - Chipset Features Setup Section, there is an item listed "AGP - 2X Mode". This is presently set to "Enabled". I hope this is all you needed to know.

However, please note that the same "error" is still in the DMI Pool Data even after I changed the AGP card over to a PCI type card (which is what I have installed at present). I understand the AGP Mode setting is not relative if you have a PCI card installed.

Further, I was later advised, after changing the GeForce 8X Mode AGP card over to the Radeon PCI card, that the GeForce card would have probably been running quite OK anyway in AGP 2X Mode as it was backwards compatible.

Also, I don't think my system is experiencing a "hang condition". The "error" message is just listed as an item with all the other DMI Pool Data and, apart from it just being there, everything else seems normal and the computer boots up to W98 and seems to function quite OK.

I look forward to your further comments and thanks again for your interest.
