can someone tell me a quick way to dump a system?

My mom is very computer illiterate and she has let a virus take over her computer, it freezes everytime you turn it on. So I need a way to dump everything and start over. I know a little about computers but I am not that advanced! please help!!

Well there are probably ways to recover as much data as possible but if you don't want to bother and start everything over...make sure you have the windows cd key, and the cd (otherwise it won't run after you install it) and follow the following 4-part directions if you have Windows 95, 98, ME:
http://www.cybertechhelp.com/html/tu...rial.php?id=36

[I suggest printing all 4 parts (removing partition, adding partition, formatting, and installing windows 98) out for quick reference]

Good Luck

(If you have trouble at a specific step ask us and we can get back to you)

Hi R U sure that there is a virus on ur moms machine.... having too many things on ur start up menu will cause a freeze ...... start thr computer in safe mode u do this by hitting the f8 key when it reboots and starts windows .. choose safe mode when windows is loaded click start then run then type in msconfig hit enter ... at top pick startup ... uncheck everthing except scanreg and systray then click apply then ok it will ask u if u want to reboot say yes... if u can get it to boot without freezing i suggest u do an online virus scan at www.trendmicro.com ...hopes this helps :-)
Be well t/c ((((Dadsgirl74))))
