Auto disconnect feature not wanted !!

Having just a 56k modem, when downloading large files I thought about just leaving the computer over night to download while i sleep. The only problem I have found is after 20 minutes a box comes up saying there has been no activity for 20 mins do i want to disconnect (and a counter goes down and disconnects its self, dispite downloading something, so there must be some activity!). This meaning i would have to wake up every 20 mintues to click on stay connected. PLEASE, anyway i can stop it from doing this so it can just carry on over night. Thanks

You can do one of two things.
  1. You can start Outlook and set it to check mail every five minutes
  2. You can create a batch file (*.bat) and set it in Task Manager to run. Then
    Go into the Settings tab and Advanced section and set it to run every five minutes.

This way your connection gets "action" every five minutes.

Here is the batch file, save from Notepad as ping.bat

-------- cut ----------
@echo off
cls
echo.
echo **************** pinging Google *******************
echo.
c:\windows\ping -n 5 google.com
@cls
-------- cut ----------

If you have nortons utility you can set it to ping the network every so often to stay connected.

Also the the one from http://download.com.com/3000-2155-47...ml?tag=lst-0-1

If you search www.shareware.com you may find other third party utilities that will do the same.
