New Old computer

I was recently given an old computer by a company upgrading. It was used on a Network, I assume Windows NT. I have connected video, key and mouse but cannot get anywhere when I turn it on.
The video shows a partial screen and freezes.
The keyboard lights do not light.
Mouse does not work.
It does not address the floppy so I cannot boot from there. I do not have a CD Boot disk but suspect it may not boot from there either although it does spin the CD on start up.

I did get a usable screen once requesting a password but of course do not know it. I cannot get that screen again ( about a dozen attempts )

Is there a solution? I am doing this for experience but hope to use the computer as a second computer in the house.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Shawn

First thing I'd check is to be sure no pins are damaged or bent on all the plugs.

Well, it is a good thing the computer was given to you. It makes it easier to throw off a bridge.
Do you know if it was in working condition when it was given to you? Sounds like it will not be worth fixing. But it could be something as simple as a power supply problem. Open the case and check the power supply as you turn it one. Also go to whoever gave it to you for the password.

So true but I hate throwing this stuff away.

I assume yes but not sure.

Nothing ventured....

Yes, I will delve a little deeper. I know nothing about Network software so before I dug too deep and killed too many days chasing my tail, I thought I would see if there was something specific I should know ie universal password (eternal optimist ) or power up trick or something.

Also go to whoever gave it to you for the password

I will try.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Cheers,

Shawn
