Windows starts to load, then freezes... Not sure where to start trouble shooting... Sounds stupid, but dog knocked PC over, it froze, after reboot the above mentioned happens... Not exactly sure how to re-format or re-install win98, or if its even a software problem versus a hardware problem.. any speculations, questions, or help would be greatly appreciated... sorry to trouble any over something so dumb.. but im a broke college student that cant afford to take it to some professional.... It is a Gateway, with a Pentium 3 processor, all factory default wiring, software, and hardware... once again thank you....

be sure to check all connections inside and outside the case before messing with your software.

opened the case no loose wires/hardware visible... not sure though never really "gutted" a computer before... but will check again....

It may not be visible. Did you physically make sure all connections were secured?
