Shut down

Hi! my problem is I go to start/shut down / shutdown then the computer tells me windows is closing, but then that is as far as it goes it will not bring the screen up that says it is safe to turn your computer off, any suggestions,
computer is a 233mmx, 160mb's ram, , monitor is a hewlett packard, I do not know if this is a windows 98 problem or a hard ware problem.

while I have your attention, is this common, when I type on this site, I am typing away and it takes ages for the words to get onto the screen, I have to sit back for some time before the writing is visible??
maybe close to two minutes.

Hi stoned - if you have Win98SE, try installing the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement and see if that helps.

Re the typing delay, go here and download and run a scan with Hijack This. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Yep, go here and download and run CWShredder. Reboot afterwards and run Hijack This again and post back a new log.

Hi again stoned - run Hijack This again and use it to fix the below entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com/

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com/

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com/

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com/

Reboot afterwards. You should be fine now. Re your topic in the Hardware forum, I have found a MS article that talks about your error message but I'm sorry, I do not have the expertise in that area to help any further. Good luck.
