Hi sanah - Go here and download and run a scan with Hijack This. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Hi sanah - you have some very nasty spyware on your PC. Download Spybot - Search & Destroy from here. If you already have Spybot on your PC, make sure that it is the latest version and go online and make sure that you have installed the latest updates.

After installing, launch Spybot from the Desktop Icon (Easy Mode),click on the Search For Updates button, search for and install all updates.

Now click on the Check for Problems button and the scan will start. Any Red entries indicate spyware problems that should be fixed to avoid security and/or privacy problems. This is the only kind of problem that is preselected to be fixed. If, after running the scan, Spybot displays red entries, click on the Fix Selected Problems button.

Now click on the Immunize button to protect your PC from known pests and exit.

If you have chosen to install an icon in your Quick Launch bar, Spybot will launch in Advanced Mode. I do not recommend this option for first time users of Spybot.

NOTE: SSD will sometimes not be able to remove all active components in the first 'run'. In that case you will get a dialog asking you to run SSD at next start. Click yes and reboot.
SSD will activate before the system puts these components 'in use', and it will then be able to 'fix' the rest.

When you have rebooted, let us know if you notice any improvement and run Hijack This again and post back a new log.

Hi AnnMarie

I followed the direction you sent me about downloading and running spybotsd12.exe but unfortunately due to some unknown reasons down load is consistently missing some dll files from all three down load sites. After when i install the software it tells me that there is an error starting program (imagehlp.dll) was not found.
I have no idea what i am doing wrong ?
I must have downloaded four five times with the same end results.
Sincerely,
Sanah

It sounds as though your IE is corrupted Sanah. Try a repair. Go to Start > Settings and open Control Panel. Doubleclick on Add/Remove Programs and look in the list of installed programs for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. When you find it, select it with your mouse and then click on Add/Remove. A dialogue box will open offering you three choices. Choose Repair Internet Explorer and follow the prompts.

If that doesnt help, try using the System File Checker utility to extract a new copy of the Imagehlp.dll file.

To do this, follow these steps:

Go to Start > Run and in the Open box, type sfc, and then click OK. Click Extract one file from installation disk. In the Specify the system file you would like to restore box, type Imagehlp.dll, and then click Start.

Insert your Windows 98 CD-ROM, and then locate the following path in the Restore From box, where CD-ROM drive is the letter label of your CD-ROM drive.

CD-ROM drive:\Win98

In the Save File In box, locate C:\Windows\System, and then click OK. If you are prompted to back up the file, click Yes and then, follow the instructions on the screen to extract the file.

Hi AnnMarie,

You were right, my IE was corrupted.I was not able to correct the problem by following the repair method but i reinstalled IE and now my orignal problem has been taken careoff.Upon reinstallation,I did not get Imagehlp.dll file error when i ran spybot-search & destroy program.I was able to run and fix as well as immunize spyware problems.
I am not sure if perfomance of my PC has improved but atleast it is running alot better now as compare to when the original problem existed given the 56kbs connection.
OVERALL,I am satisfied with the help you provided me.
Thank you.You are an Angel.
Sincerely,
Sanah
PS.
I have posted a new log.

We have not quite finished sanah. Run Hijack This again and this time, select the below entries and click on "Fix Selected". Reboot afterwards.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dlder] C:\WINDOWS\explorer\Explorer.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Internet Washer Pro] C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET WASHER PRO\IW.exe min

When you have rebooted, go to C:\Windows\explorer\Explorer.exe and delete Explorer.exe (be very careful not to delete C:\Windows\explorer.exe (the difference is the file path - the former file is a spyware trojan, the latter file is a required windows file). Also search for and delete IW.exe.

Let us know if you notice any difference in performance now.

Hi AnnMarie
I followed through your last instructions and checked on file paths that you have mentioned above and clicked on "fix selected".
You have mentioned that i should find and delete Explorer.exe and IW.exe after reboot, but i was not able to find these files.Do you think these files were automatically deleted when i followed through the procedure?.
I see some improvement in the performance. Pages are being loaded comparitively faster than before.
I want to thank you again for your sincere help.

Truely,
Sanah

Hi again Sanah - The files will still be on your PC but they may be hidden files. Make sure that you can view hidden files (doubleclick on My Computer. Click on the View menu and click Folder Options. Click the View Tab and click Show all files and then click OK).

Be very careful to make sure that you delete the spyware version of Explorer.exe
