I have a Compaq Presario 866 desktop computer with Window 3.11 installed. I wanted to replace the old monitor with a new one. The retailer said that there would not be a problem, just plug it in and it would work. However, when I tried to insert the connector into the recepticle on the computer, it could not be inserted. The old connector has a standard 15 pin arrangement with some pins missing which allowed it to be inserted. The 15 pin recepticle on the computer has one pin hole plugged and the new monitor connector (which has all 15 pins) could not be inserted.

Can anyone explain this problem and offer the least expensive method of resolving it?

Windows 3.11, computer is that old  You might be able to get an adaptor but am not sure, possibly the best will be to get a new video card but it may not be worth the cost

Grammer is everything, eh dammit? ;)

DisplaySonic (http://www.displaysonic.com/) has some good stuff, too.
