Hi there. I have an old Compaq Presario 7152 thats running Windows 95. It only has a 75mhz Pentium processor and two 344 Meg hardrives. I am going to use it only as a music machine. I have absoultely nothing in this computer so I am kinda experimenting to see if it is going to be enough computer for what I want to do. Anyway my problem is I have been trying to install a copy of MG Sharewares Free Rip2 to rip my cds to Mp3s. I have used this program on my main computer for a couple of years and really like the program. I can install it on this other computer and everything seem to go just fine but when I try to execute it, I get the dreded "This Program Has Performed An Illegal Act " message. When I hit details it says "Freerip2 caused an invalid page fault in module FREERIP2 .EXE at 0137:004088lf." Then it has

That is what comes up. I looked these over a couple of times and I think I got them pretty much exactly how they are on the message. Any help would really be appreciated. This program says it will run on Windows 95. Its not a life or death problem, but just an pain in the butt problem. Thanks!

My gut call at this point is memory. How many megs of ram do you have install?

The system has 72 meg of Ram installed on it. That should be plenty don't you think? I might add that I did try installing a different ripping software program on it and it worked, but I just didn't care for the program.

Maybe a bad install, have you try to re install the program?

Also may want to check your systems resources and double check to see if Windows is managing your virtual memory. Go to control panel/system/performance tab for system ands advance tab for virtual memory.

I have already tried reinstalling the program several times. I checked the virtual memory and it seems to be set correctlly. I have pretty much taken all programs off this computer that are not needed, like my antivirus and other internet programs, because this computer will probably not be on the internet. Right now the system resources are showing 82% free. I'm not confinced it is a memory problem. I have tried to contact the program developer but their website doesn't seem to want to come up. Thanks for your help and suggestions though. Any other ones are welcome and I will also work on the problem and if I find a solution will let you know. Thanks again.

Just an update. Never did get that program to work. I found a different one that I could live with and it installed just fine. I just wanted to thank you again for trying to help. This tech site is great, it has helped me figure out more than one problem.

what is the exact name of the program you are trying to install. I am not familiar with it and I cannot find it online after searching.
