does anyone know of any free cd burning software. I have adaptec, but I have a new burner and they are not compatible. I downloaded a trial of one a while ago and it worked, but I really dont want to have to buy another program.

Check out www.download.com (http://www.download.com) and do a search. You will find other software, mostly demos though. The only 100 percent free one I know of is Microsoft Media Player.

I do not burn cds through them but if you go to media players help, you will get step by step instructions.... Also check out real player...
