View Full Version : Missing export

I have a fairly new machine, P3, 1.2GHz, 256Mb RAM. After installing Serif PagePlus a number of programs stopped working. When I try to run MSPaint, I get the error message: "A device attached to the system is not functioning." Click OK and there is a nother message box "Error Starting Program" with the text "The MSPAINT.EXE file is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6452."

Similarly, SmartFTP stopped running, with similar messages. When I tried to re-install SmartFTP from scratch, the install failed.

Can I avoid re-installing Windows?

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum.

Step 1 - uninstall serif pageplus. See if that solves it.
Step 2 - Boot to a DOS prompt and type scanreg /restore and pick a date prior to install of PagePlus.

That should hopefully get you working.
However, if install/uninstall has actually deleted files rather than just amend registry paths, you may also need to run SFC (start>run>sfc [enter]) to look for missing/altered system files.
