I have installed MS Patches on my 1.66 XP Home computer. After this installation NAV Antivirus autoprotect and email protection no longer work.
I have tried to turn it on via options but each time it appears to work and goes back to the page showing on and off types. States refreshing and then reverts back to the orginal status.
Completely unable to turn them on.
Until recently was able to scan for virus manually but now each time I tried to it shuts my computer down.
Went to Norton site and downloaded virus removers and ran them just in case, nothing.
Then had Norton download a complete update for my type 2003 antivirus. still does not work.
I downloaded the patches from MS as I have someone who really likes my computer and when he's in it slows down to a crawl. Each time I have corrected the problem everything works ok until he finds another way in.
Got in yesterday and slowed system down again. Only thing I found this time was he had removed the WWW from my startup site, to allow him in this way.
This is a new one.
I need my antilvirus, has anyone encountered this before, or heard of a solution.

Hi....are you saying someone is accessing your PC remotely via trojan or something?

If you got someone hacking into your computer, what you really need is a firewall. What OS are you using?

what you should try is uninstalling NAV and prehaps even get the removal tool for that from symantec.com and then install it fresh
if this doesnt work for you you should definetely look into a virus check online

symantec.com does that also, it is all done online so will not need your NAV to work.

If that doesnt fix it then if you check what programs are running, either by
run=msconfig or regedit and check out the run= lots.

maybe do a diagnostic run and see if it works any better

good luck

Hi ladyfall - it would be a good idea if we had a look at what is running on your PC. Go here (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/beta/hijackthis.zip) and download and run a scan with Hijack This. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this this thread.

First of all, if someone is hacking into your computer, call the authorities. Maybe they can catch them in the act.

Second, you really need that firewall.

Third, do what AnnMarie tells you to do :D
