View Full Version : problem with old pc

Was wondering if anyone could tell me whats wrong.
I have an old HP Pavillion 6623 that I hadn't used in over a year (packed away when I got divorced & moved out). Anyway, I decided my son is old enough to have his own pc now so I got it out and hooked it up.
It powers up, the light comes on and it makes the usual hum, but I get nothing on the monitor, and no power seems to be getting to the keyboard either (no caps lock lights, etc.)
I have all the original software but without a screen & keyboard I cant even try a restore.
Before I drag it in for service does anyone have any ideas at all whats wrong and is there anything I can do myself to fix if so??

Thanks.

Hi Amy

First thing to check is if anything got knocked loose inside (likely a cable/connector). Take the cover off and check.

Here's a photo/layout of the mobo (http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg=&lc=en&cc=&prodId=hppavilion19287&docName=bph07172&cat=prodinfo). Use it to see where everything's supposed to be!

I cannot beleive this but I fixed it!
I have never opened a computer up in my life and I almost didn't but thought it couldnt hurt to at least look.
I actually cant tell you what I did, I just pushed a few things in here and moved a switch there and when I turned it back on my screen came on and keyboard is functioning fine. My son tackled me and hugged me, he thinks Im a computer wiz now, LOL.
Cant thank you enough, you probably saved me lots of money and time waiting for repairs!
