MY printer will not print anything that is sent to it. The document can be seen in the manager screen but all the printer does is push the paper through and put a couple logos like @#$% across the top of the page. I have tried prinitng from many programs and its always the same problem. Im running XP off of an HP computer the printer is HP deskjet 3820.

Was the printer printing correctly on this PC at one time, and now it is not printing correctly? It sounds like the driver is not working, or the data connection may have a problem. Is it a USB or a Parallel port connection to the printer?

The printer was hooked up and working correctly to this same PC, and it is hooked up through a parallel port.

The printer was hooked up and working correctly to this same PC, and it is hooked up through a parallel port.

I know little about XP, but I would reinstall the printer. Do a remove of the printer in Device Manager (or XP equivalent), reboot and reinstall per manufacturer/XP instructions.

If this doesn't correct the problem, install the printer on another PC and see what happens.

This sounds like a poor connection between the computer and printer. Check the cable, if you can, try a different one.

xp has default drivers built in:
run thru the xp setup and see if your OS will identiify the the printer by default.
if not you may need to use the HP setup disks or the trouble shooting page @ the HP website.
