Well, Im new, and been reading here for a while and decided to ask a Q and maybe help out on some of these questions that others have.
Ive got one that I odnt know too much about.
Recently I uninstalled webshots screensaver program because I saw info about webshots causing problems on systems. Well, the enxt time that I went to restart the system(ctrl alt del) it owuld not reboot, it put up a blank screen message saying window protection error., there was a problem initializing device VKD, you must restart your computer.
Well, no one has been able to tell me what that means, cuz no one knows. I wrote zeros to the drive and formatted and deleted and reinstalled WIN98 sec and well it did it again recently, but doesnt every time.
I think I am missing a boot file of some kind, as the screen flashes a boot message real quick sometihng about missing or unable to locate file U something. I figured everything needed would be on the system resto CD, but apparently not. So hmm....

Anyone have a clue what all that means ?

I appreciate anything on this.

Happy putering !

Hi randy...welcome to the board.

The VKD device is for your keyboard. I've seen this quite a few times and the resolution of the problem was either one of these:

1. Replace keyboard

2. Boot to DOS Mode. Hold down the Ctrl key at startup or press F8 repeatedly after the POST beep. This will get you to a boot menu. Select Command Prompt Only and press Enter. At the C:\> prompt type scandisk /surface /all and press Enter. Let scandisk fix any errors it finds. Reboot and see if you get the error.
