Adding hints and hyperlinks to slide show?

Dear friends:

Is it possible to add hints to the images that make up a javascript slide show so that when a visitor holds his mouse over the image, he/she can see info about the image? Is this easy to do? Is it necessary to add a second javascript script inside the existing javascript slide show script?

Similarly, is it easy to add hyperlinks to each image of a javascript slide show that does not have this feature?

Thank you so much.

Benjamin

It does take javascript to do what you want. However, you can also do it with flash or a cheaper version of a flash wannabe called swish. This would also make your picture more secure.

you may be better off searching the web to see if there is already a script available with what you want.

I would have thought it was relatively straightforward to add these features to the existing script, depending on how it works. Can you post a link?

Dear Steven.Bentley:

Thanks for writing. Here is the URL:

http://www.immortalgems.com

I've dropped the javascript slide show. Instead, please see the hinting above with the thumbnails. Please note that the hinting works in IE but not in Netscape. Opera shows the hinting but not the text I wrote. Instead, Opera shows the URL that the thumbnail is linked to.

Thanks again.

I am using msie and the hints do not work with it but the page has alot of problems so I am not sure if I tried the right thumbnails. I sample several.

I don't see any hinting either, however if you put an alt attribute containing a description of the image into each of the img tags that would do it - you should really be doing that as a matter of course

Dear Steven.Bentley:

Thanks for writing.

But that's the funny part. I DO have an alt attribute. I entered it in Dreamweaver and it shows up clearly as a hint in IE, but not in Netscape. Opera shows the hint but not the alt attribute itself but rather the URL.

Thanks again.

I didn't see the alt attribute when I looked at your code (admitedly this was last time I posted in this thread, haven't looked tonight)
