I went away on vacation and someone hooked up one of my PC's to the internet, without a firewall, and got infected with klez. It embedded itself in there really good. When I got home, it wouldn't stop rebooting (after it loads everything on the desktop, taskbar, etc.)
It boots fine in safe mode (except no mouse!) Anyway, I have tried everything to fix it. I ran a scanner on it, and it said it removed the virus, but it keeps rebooting! I downloaded the Win2k Professional boot disk thingie from bootdisk.com and can't figure out how to get to a DOS prompt to try to format or use fdisk /mbd It won't let me format in safemode, and that's the only thing I can get it to boot up in right. If I can't get the master boot disc fixed, I want to format it. But how? I can't get to a DOS prompt with the boot disk! The error I get when trying to format, it says "Volume in use, unable to lock hard drive" or something like that Can anyone help me?? |

Reboot and hit DELETE KEY to enter into your SETUP.
Find where you set the boot sequence and set it to boot fromCD 1st. Now put the W2K CD in and it should boot up from the CD. From there you can format and reinstall W2K. There are many type of klez virus, and there are removal tools available. Try this TOOL first.
