Angry ME internet connectivity problem

Help. I'm being driven slowly INSANE by an ME system?

Downloaded an internet booster. The damned thing didn't appear to work. Uninstalled it. Now connecting to the internet appears successfull but the web page is not displayed.

Convinced its an IP addressing problem. IPCONFIG /ALL

ISP: Btopenworld - Useless. Have uninstalled Btopenworld and re-installed it.

No success

regards

paul

Download and post the log from hijack this http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ You may have something leftover from the internet booster. Also what was the name of the booster program? Are you not able to see any web pages or just certain ones?

Post ME internet connectivity problem.

Hi,

It may have hosed something in your registry, if the above suggestion did not work try this (it's known as the "TCP/IP reg hack"):

Right click MY NETWORK PLACES and go to PROPERTIES, one by one remove ALL of the TCP/IP protocols, hit APPLY and then OK, but DO NOT reboot yet (answer NO to the pop up). Click on START and then on RUN and type in REGEDIT and then hit OK. Back up the registry (click on REGISTRY, then EXPORT REGISTRY FILE, save it in MY DOCUMENTS, then give it a file name like BACKUP or REGBACKUP, select ALL down at the bottom and then hit SAVE), it will take a moment.

Then click on the + in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then go to SYSTEM, then SERVICES, then delete the WINSOCK and WINSOCK2 folders. After that click on the + for the VxD folder, delete the following folders: DHCP, MSTCP, WINSOCK, and WINSOCK2. Click on all of the minuses until all the folders are closed again and you are back to the original 5 or 6, close the window.

Then click START, SHUTDOWN, and put it on RESTART and hit OK. Once it's done rebooting MY NETWORK PLACES should have disappeared from the desktop. Go into the CONTROL PANEL and click on the NETWORK icon then add the TCP/IP protocol back in again (ADD-PROTOCOL-ADD-MICROSOFT-TCP/IP then hit OK).

It should have replaced all of them that were previously in there. It will also replace all of the registry keys that you previously deleted. Click APPLY and OK and reboot again. After it's done rebooting MY NETWORK PLACES should have re-appeared on the desktop. Try surfing again and see if works now.

Good luck!
