I need help w/CONTROL PANEL PLEASE!!!

I had a virus that destroyed some main files and now I cannot get into my control panel. Every time I try to enter a file in my control panel I get an error message that says: Cannot find file: C:\windows\rundll32.exe. Can someone tell me how to get this back, and even if I can?

You have likely been hit with the SirCam virus!

Go this site and download the appropriate cleaner file:

ftp://ftp.europe.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/antisirc.txt

If you are on a network you will need to do the following,(even after running the cleaner program). [Given that I am a touch paranoidal I would check the following out even if I were running a stand alone PC.]

Start>Find>Rundll32.exe

Rename it to something you can remember easily,(for example SirCamvirus). Just in case it is the legitimate version of the file which could be restored if need be!

Start>Find Run32.exe

Rename it to Rundll32.exe

Reboot your computer.

If your computer runs normally then:

Delete SirCamvirus

Start>Run[type in REGEDIT] and hit Enter

Search for Sir*

delete any references

Start>Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer>View>Show all files\folders>(make sure that the settings allow you to view all folders including hidden folders)>Recycle Bin>delete any subfolders of the recycle bin.

This is because this little S.O.B. creates a hidden folder in the recycle directory containing an .exe file which is referenced by the registry on boot that causes it to be reloaded every time you start Windows and thereby reinfects your computer every time Windows loads.

Post back and let us know how you make out!
