Spider,

Can you give us some more information? What's going on when this happens? What are you doing when it happens? Has this always happened? If not, when did it start happening?

I just open up a DOS-Prompt, the promt is at c:\ and I type netstat
and get the error, I type netstat -e, netstat -r, netstat -n -r, everything
gives me the same error.

I use it alot to check for unwanted hooks. I go to it one day and got
the error. Used Mcafee Uninstaller to clean the reg and broken links etc.
I tried reinstalling win98 and it was a no-go. I searched Google endlessly
for any similar probs and found no answers. I got a buddy to email me
his netstat.exe and still no-go.

I ended up doin' the big fdisk/format/everythingfromscratch trick :(
After bringing in the basic Win98SE I checked netstat right away and
it worked fine...great.

I had so many proggys and drivers to reinstall, well you know, it was a few
days before I had most of them back and config'd. What I didn't do was
check netstat after each proggy's reinstall (like why would I anyway) and
somewhere nestat started giving the same error again.

I haven't had use of netstat for at least three months. Weird things are going
on like sometimes when I shut down I get prompted that I will be closing connection
from 1 computer on the network. My machine gets real slow once in awhile (not often
but enough to get my attention) and I have to reboot to get things back to normal.

I found I still had the system config'd for networking (I use to have two other machines
hooked with this one). I shut off all the networking for Windows. I don't get the prompt,
when shutting down, about closing connection from 1 computer on the network
anymore but I am still sitting here with a busted netstat.

I get alerts from ZoneAlarm once in awhile from odd IPs. I try to resolve the IPs
and no domain name. I ping 'em and they are there, and usually fast on the
milliseconds.

I even tried 3rd party Netstat proggys and they boot but fail in showing connections.

p.s.

I ran PC-cillin98 and no virii, I even used their online housecall...no virii.

If its BO, RC5, or something like that I never heard of them shutting down
netstat so you can't see connections.

I thought I'd bump up this old thread and say...

...I have Netstat back!

It took one of those ½-day Google relentless digs to come up with some
hints that led me to look at inetmib1.dll

Specifically c:\windows\system\inetmib1.dll

What happened to my old one? Hey, it's a story alright but I don't want to
get all tech n' boring. Just wanted to post the fix.
