I have a problem with win2000 pro. I am using BT openworld Internet service provider. The problem I get is svchost.exe has generated errors & will be closed by windows. This first started happening when I was connected to the Internet. I Checked for a virus and removed a virus and the problem still occured. Reinstalled Win2000 and everything was Ok until I install the ISP and the svchost.exe error returns. Once the error occurs then I have problems disconnecting from the Internet and can not open any other programs and have problems closing programs that are already open.
The Pc is connected to a peer to peer network and I have since put a brand new Win2000 PC onto the network with a virgin operating system on it and shared the machine with error's internet connection. As soon as I shared the connection the error started to affect the new machine also. The new machine has never displayed this error and only started once the internet connection share was enabled even though it had been on a LAN connection for some time before.
I have disabled the Internet sharing and setup a seperate dialup acc on the new machine and the error is still coming up and displays even when I am not connected to to Internet.
Any ideas. Help please! I am very stuck!

Looks like you might have several instances of svhost running at any one time. One may be corrupted. See if the info HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q250/3/20.ASP&NoWebContent=1) is of any value.

Let's see if there is anything remaining of the virus.
Download 'Hijack This!'. Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, click "Save Log", and copy and paste it in a reply.
