missing desktop icons and start bar

all my desktop icons and startbar are missing. i tried going to save mode and last good configuration to no avail!!!! all get when i boot is my background and nothing else how can i fix this? i have tried task manager and regedit as well

Have you tried right-clicking on your desktop,and checking "show desktop icons" under "arrange icons" or "active desktop"?

yup and i cant even get that i have no functions whatso ever when the desktop comes up just my background

Reboot and press the f8 key as if going to safe mode and choose last known good configuration.

did that and still nothing ....tried everything except comand prompt in safe mode ....i think if i can roll back a few days it should be fine, the thing is i dont know how to do that

try this... start/run.....type scanreg /restore notice the space between g and /

Try this as it sounds like the explorer .exe file is corrupted
