svchost.exe

Hi all

Is it unusual to have svchost.exe listed 3 times in the running processes tab on task manager, and using 3 different amounts of memory? (sorry I`ve just noticed the post below: svvhost.exe I`ll have a quick look and see if that helps)

I`m running W2Kpro, if that helps.

Also I`ve noticed that when I maximise a window it isn`t filling the screen entirely and I can`t move the window by dragging the blue bar at the top although I can still right click on it and get the menu.

Any solutions or ideas would, as always, be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ok so I know svchost.exe is not a major problem, has anyone got any ideas about the window resizing though?

Hi iron_rich - if you cannot resize the window by dragging the edges, you may have corrupt keys in your registry. Run regedit (Start > Run and type regedit) and delete the following keys:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internetexplorer\Desktop\E
xplorer\desktop\oldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.

If you have any qualms about doing this, you can export them to your C drive first and restore them later or delete them, as you wish (select the entry that you are going to delete with your mouse and go to File and choose Export. Call it any name that you like (selected branch should be pre-selected) and then send it to a New Folder on your Desktop as a reg file. If you have no further problems, rightclick on the New Folder and delete it. Do not doubleclick on a .reg file unless you want to put it back in your Registry)

Thanks AnnMarie

Sorry for the delay, been a bit hectic the last couple of days. My window size problem seemed to clear itself up after a couple of hours

Thanks for the info though
