I have a Presario 7470. I bought it used and the guy who had it before me must have had it networked. I guess its a network card thats in it. I hooked up my telephone line up to the back and it would not dial up. Then it says there is no modem installed, so i gather that it has a network card and not a modem. I took the card out and put my Rockwell modem out of another compaq computer i have, and it still would not dial out. The computer still says no modem installed. I thought usually when you install new hardware and restart your computer, the computer automatically finds new hardware installed. Is there some settings i need to change somewhere to switch the computer from being networked to using a modem? Any help in this matter would greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Lonnie, that is generally the case for most cards, not modems though. You will need to install the modem drivers for that card before Windows will recognize it.

Go to start / settings / control panel / system / device manager
Do you see any yellow splats anywhere. If so please post back and tell us wha they are.
