When I try to open an internet shortcut, like a shortcut from a software manufacturer to thier website IE just opens what seems to be the raw data for the *.url shortcut file.

Hi Codeman, welcome to CTH

Try shift-right clicking the link and go into the Open With option, and select Internet Explorer, and tell it to always use that program.

Hi Codeman, welcome to CTH

Try shift-right clicking the link and go into the Open With option, and select Internet Explorer, and tell it to always use that program. It looks like it is supposed to open with a system dll or something. Go into control panel>folder options>file types>then find .url-see it isn't supposed to open with IE directly i don't think though I could be wrong.

Hi Codeman - Select URL and click on Advanced. Select Open and click on Edit. You should see under :Application Use to Perform Action"

rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l

Use DDE should be checked and Application should be:

shdocvw

Topic:

System.

What do you see?
