i am sorry if this is in the wrong area.i have recently purchased a compaq presario 5bw120.on the keyboard it has what they call a 'digital dashboard' basically certain buttons do different things.anyway my problem is this if i put the pc in sleep mode via the button on the keyboard or it enters sleep mode itself if i then wake it up and go into internet explorer or outlook express when the dial up box appears and you press connect it starts dialing crashes and reboots.this is getting most annoying. i have reinstalled keyboard drivers, repaired internet explorer and removed and reinstalled outlook express.compaq suggested reinstalling keyboard drivers( i had done this)and removing temp files but i cant see that would help although i have done this
any help would be grateful
regards matt

Hi Matt,

First off I do do not believe that it has any thing to do with your keyboard. Of course the quick answer is to not put your computer in sleep mode. You can disable this feature from Display Properties/ ScreenSaver tab.(right click the desktop)

Matt I am not sure what the best way to fix your problem is, I know that a lot of hardware and software has problems with APM, and that most people in the know do not use this feature.

Hope this has helped.

Dale

yes i agree the best thing to do is to turn that option off, microsoft acknowledges that there is a problem, and also advises to turn it off.

they known about this problem for some time now and all they have done about this is to tell you not to use it,I guess its to hard to take it back out of the source code.
