Scream,
If WinME's total lack of DOS is like Windows2000 on an NTFS partition - where even with a bootdisk you can't get to that partition....then you will have to make a standard Win98 bootdisk remember to include fdisk.exe format.exe and fdisk it. I use partition magic to do this and hence keep my other partitions.
But I haven't used ME so if ya can give me some more info I'll help ya http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif

hi scream
first thing to do is to make sure your bios is still set to look for a floppy drive first then just use any win98 boot disk you shouldn't have any problems Im now running win9x which is ME and mine will boot just fine from any 98 boot disk and also dos is still there just a little cut down but all the functions still work, so if you cant boot to a floppy its probably because your bios is set wrong.

You can get to a dos prompt using a ME boot disk. Just choose minimal boot and it will take ya to the a:.

let me start at the beginning. I have a IBM Thinkpad 600e with P2 400mhz with 10 gig hardrive and 256 mg ram. I had winme on this puter and everything was fine. then I got a copy of winnt from a friend and I tried to install this on the puter. when installing this it gave me the option of portioning the hard drive. I did this, I portioned it to a 2 gig and 8 gig drive {I believe}. when the install was done nt did not work to good so I installed win98 over it then win me over that.when that was all done I looked at my c drive and found only 2gigs showing. that's pretty much where I am now. if anyone can help it would be appreciated, I can not afford to put this thing in the shop right now and would really like to get it going again. thanks scream

I think it sounds like the time to Fdisk your hard drive, this would let you remove all your partions and then format your HD once you decide which OS your going to run.
1.Millennium Its a upgrade from windows98 for home users computers If you dont need any office stuff this is for you.
2.windows 2000 this is a office OS it was intended for a business and not a good OS if you have any DOS based games
3.windows 98SE good OS been tested and is a know resource hog,but has a lot of fixes for all its bugs.
windowsNT older office OS if you run games you dont need this OS best only for small business.
hope this helps you to make up your mind
then once you know which one you want fdisk your harddrive and format then install your OS

well I got the other 8gig back and i got winme, so it looks like everything is the way I would like it to be. one question I have is it possible to run winme on one part of the hardrive and winnt on another part. like a duel boot thing maybe? I'm not to good with the computers yet and I just play with these things and sometimes I get myself in to trouble. thank you all once again for the help and support. since I found this board I have found and learned many things and it is much appreciated. scream

You can run dual boot as long as NT or 2k is on another partition or hard drive. I chose to use another hard drive and glad I did now. I won a copy of Win 2k at Microsoft "Big Day". I installed it on the second hard drive, but have not been too happy with it. First it will not recognize my HP cd burner, and second I run a Matrox Dual head video card. Due to the way Matrox splits the signal, I cannot run dual monitors with 2k. It will run them if I let the desktop use both monitors, but I cannot run them separate like I do in ME. It does seem to run faster and my modem connects at higher speed, but I use it less and less and prolly will take out the drive next time I open the case.
