When purchasing a Sound card, what will give the better quality. A sound card for an ISA slot or PCI based card?

See you made it!! I will have to go and change my other post as I see you have the gif working. Great!! Ooops just checked that the ACE. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/wink.gif BTW this board DOES allow gifs in sigs!!

Dullo have you checked this yet? http://americas.creative.com/sound/live-value/ PCI is far more popular and the Live! card can not be beat for the price.

There is little reason to expect,(that all things being equal),a PCI sound card will by definition provide superior performance compared to an ISA card. In fact a high quality ISA card will frequently provide superior performance to a generic PCI card.

This is because although the PCI bus is inherently faster than the ISA bus,(32 bit data path vs. a 16 bit data path)- sound cards are not especially fast devices in the overall scheme of things. Thus the speed advantage of the PCI becomes a moot point.

That said: In the computer world, newer IS almost always better. The technology is proceeding at such a pace that one can generally assume that a device which uses the PCI bus is newer technology than a similar device which utilizes the ISA bus and will therefore be likely to yield superior performance.

An additional consideration:The ISA bus slot is on the verge of extinction. In the near future motherboards will not have ISA slots available. Thus unless you are sure that you will not wish to move your new sound card into a new machine at some point buy a PCI card.

Summation: Buy a PCI sound card, unless of of course you find a smokin' deal on a top of the line ISA card-such as a Turtle Beach or equivalent.

Hey,

This topic would be suited better in the Hardware & Overclocking board.

This topic will be closed here, and transferred to the Hardware board where it will remain open http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
