I have a web page that I would like to allow people to download programs from.
They would click on file name and it would automatically download to there hard drive. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

thanks,

geekster

If I may ask, are these programs that you have written?

No these are mostly files of different types of programs like drivers, support files
and other types of help files. They would be compressed winzip files.

ok, assuming you have the necessary permissions to distribute these files, you can link to them like you would to another file on your site, and clicking the link will prompt the user to download or save it

Make sure of the following first, you have permission to redistribute, your web host allows large file sizes, you purchased enough monthly transfer to allow for the download of software, and finally, your webhost allows zip files.

Otherwise all you have to do is to create a link like any other link within a website. It is automatic once that is done.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I realize that you have to have permission for use of other programs. I actually will be providing help files for computer users such as email safety, internet safety tips etc.
I appreciate this site and the help it provides.

thanks again,
