What the heck is this message I have never seen this before. It had my desktop locked up and I had to restart explorer to get the desktop back. I have zone alarm and msie 5.5 sp1 running that's it. The error message appeared when I tried to access this ftp site. ftp://ftp.trentu.ca/pub/jjoyce/ulysses/

Tram,
I have never ever seen that error before !!
My 1st thought was to run a virus scan.
But, I then tried to access that ftp site and my desktop locked. However windows 2000 saved me from having to reload explorer, and it said that IE was not responding. I too am using IE5.5(SP1)
I've personally never liked browsing ftp sites using IE because I've always found it to be pretty lame at doing so, instead prefering to use CuteFTP.
I'm going to try and logon to that site now with CuteFTP and see how that goes.
I'll let ya know dude,

Yes I thought program manager was a throw back to 3.1. I was able to get through with MSIE on a second try. Another strange thing that I can't figure out is where was this new error reporting tool? Is that tool just linked to certian error messages?
I have though about this a little more and now think that I had three IE pages open. One to the main site, one to a BB and one to the FTP site. The error message just not appear once but several times coming and going at will. Yes it is strange and the best part is we may never know what happened. Hummm

Yea program manager was from way back in 3.1
While I was looking for some info on your problem I came across this (you probably did too) Click Here (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q116/2/45.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0)
Apparantly Program Manager has even be included in WinME !! That surprised me http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
I don't know what the cause was to be honest. My IE crashed with one window trying to view that ftp site, and yea I noticed no "email this problem we should have spotted before release of SP1" message box.
I'm beginning to get awful nightmares of 5.01 again. I had nothing but trouble with that version of IE.

Just a thought Tram but you don't think that error may have actually been the reporting tool for M$ screwing up ????
Because I can see at this stage no relation whatsoever to Program Manager, as Internet Explorer is only integrated with M$ Explorer.

You know that is a thought. it may have been just that. I really wish I could cause an error and see. maybe i will hack a dll and see what i can't come up with. The error flashed several times. You know something else may not be related but you never know. Last night i got pinged from about ten different sites over 150 times in about five minutes. ZA blocked 'em all and i have the log and am going throught it pinging back http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Doubt there is a tie in. With this error message ZA just sat still.
I have also checked my FTP settings in IE
I have this feature enabled. (think its the default) I bet that's where the problem is.
Specifies to show FTP sites in folder view, which is similar to browsing folders in Windows Explorer. This feature may not work with certain types of proxy connections. If you clear this check box, FTP sites will display their contents in an HTML-based layout.
