Can someone PLEASE help me. I am a soccer Mom, who keeps getting a grey illegal function box re windows explorer. If the computer is left on too long it appears. Whether or not I am even doing anything. I have tried so many things. What causes it, and how do I get rid of it.
I can't run disk defragmentor, it gets to 39% and restarts itself, I can only run scan disk thru DOS. I can follow instructions, but I am no expert. What do I do? I also sometines get a message that says I am low on systems resources. and a problem with a dll file. Do I get rid of my computer?

Hi! Welome to CTH
It would really help to know the exact message you are seeing on the screen.
The first thing to do, to try and narrow down the cause of the error is:
START | RUN
Type in the following:
msconfig
Hit OK
Now a window comes up click on the Start Up TAB,
Uncheck everything but
systray
explorer
Now hit apply and reboot. If the problem goes away then the culprit is a program thats starts with windows. If the problem does go away, post back with a list of the entries you see where you unchecked the boxes, then we can proceed.
"I can't run disk defragmentor, it gets to 39% and restarts itself"
This can be caused by many things, in particular you have too many temporary files on the computer to remedy this:
1. Open Internet Explorer then go to Tools | Internet Options and delete temporary files.
2. START | SEARCH | FILES
Type in the following where it asks for what to find:
*.tmp
Hit OK or Find
In the right pane will be all the temporary files on your computer, highlight them and delete - you will not be able to delete Index.dat or some other's if in use by windows, it will come up and tell you that. The easiest way is to highlight the file right under index.dat, hold your shift key down then highlight the last file, then hit delete key, if asked say YES.
Not try and run defrag.
