My pc is running Win98 however it will just shut down whenever it feels like it. When I try to reboot it acts normal going thru the ScanDisk and then shuts off before it finishes ScanDisk. I can't even get it into Safe Mode.

It's a hardware problem of some sort, but I'd bet my money on it being a heat problem. Have you ever had the case open to clean all the accumulated dirt out? If not, your PC interior as well as the PS interior could be full of dirt. If it's all clean, it could be a failing PS (power supply) and should be changed before it damages some other component.
If it's all full of stuff, you should post for cleaning instructions.

I agree, sounds like a heat problem. In addition to the previous message, check and make sure all of your fans are blowing. Also feel around the powersupply and make sure it is not too hot to touch
