Hi guys,
I'm thinking about upgrading to Windows ME and also installing more RAM. Would it make any difference which I did first?

Without knowing what you presently have,it is difficult to give an opinion.
I have recently upgraded my brothers system in three steps.
did a BIOS upgrade and his system now recognizes his hard drive as PIO 4 not 2 as before, added 64 Meg RAM to a total of 128 and loaded WIN-ME.
As far as he is concerned he has a new system, faster, more responsive, no crashes, etc.
You cannot loose by upgrading memory to a reasonable level.
Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your very prompt response!
I've ordered the RAM, so thats a for sure thing. But I think I've got to look into Windows ME a bit more. But you (or at least your brother) seem to give it good grades. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
Much appreciated,
Tami

I would say it a little better then windows98SE.
I have been running it for some time now and it preforms well for me,Im not to crazy about the restore function but you can shut it off if you want.
but i wasnt scared to run it on my mom machine and she 74yrs old she has no problems either.
so yes it appears to be stable enough until whistler comes out then we will see.

Thanks Ironside!
I just have Windows98 on here, but a couple of friends had gone to WindowsME and were having good luck with it. The reason I was thinking about doing the upgrade is because, even tho I have the minimum running on startup, my resources start at about 86%, they seem to go down way to fast. Like with nothing even open they can go down to 30% in just a couple of hours. Hence, the RAM. But the people I've talked to that have WindowsME on their computers say that it runs faster, uses less resources, and is much more stable. So I thought, why not try it.
Thanks for your input, it was much appreciated.
Tami

hello again
yes winME will help with the system resources adding ram will help but keep in mind that windows resources and ram are not the same thing, windows uses a swap file that is from your hard drive and that makes up your sys resources, what happens is windows dont like to release it and you sometimes have to restart windows to get it back.
But winME is better for that problem I dont have to restart nearly as much now,so i would say ME should work alot better for you.

Ok thanks Ironside!
You've explained things alittle more clearly for me. I didn't realize that RAM didn't really have to do with system resources. I'm glad you told me that or I'da put that RAM in thinking my computer was going to be zingin'...lol. Ok...I'm off to buy WindowsME.
Thanks a bunch,
Tami
