Angry Please Help!! Cannot Cannot Save Pics As Jpg On Hard Drive

[font=Comic Sans MS][size=3][color=Navy]

A friend decided to clean out my computer to make more disk space available but somehow managed to change/delete something on my computer so that now when I receive pictures through email and right click to save them on my hard drive, the pictures do not save as JPG - even when the pictures that I am saving are already JPG.

Could someone please tell me what was wiped out and how to restore/fix it????

THANK YOU for any help you can offer,
Binkie

Trying to offer more info. what happens is: I save a pic by right clicking and typing in the title, type of file says JPEG and save it to my pictures. When I open my pictures on the hard drive I do NOT get the JPEG icon. I get the Adobe Photo icon. When I click on the icon, instead of opening in Adobe Photo, I receive a message "what do you want to open with" whereas. If I click on Adobe Photo I receive a message that the pic cannot be opened in Adobe Photo because Adobe does not recognize the file extension. I can open the pic with another program but other programs do not offer the features that Adobe does.

I apologize if I have not been clear with my description of the problem.

First, goto Windows Explorer Folder Options, to the View tab and uncheck to Hide Extensions.

Now check that your files actually have a .jpg/.jpeg extension and not file.jpg.xxx which can sometimes happen when hiding extensions.

After working on the computer a good part of the day I can now open pics in Adobe Photo Deluxe, which I have downloaded to my hard drive from email. I did empty the temporary folder cache.

The only way the pics will save on my "My Pics" file on the hard drive is as "BMP". Can someone tell me how to save the files as JPEG? The box that comes up when I click on Save As has BMP as the only option, whereas I used to have several options (JPEG, GIF and one other). Can the box that comes up be set so the files can be saved in JPEG?

(The pics I am saving are JPEG)

I have Windows 98
Internet Explorer

Thanks,
Binkie

Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options>General tab and click on the "Delete Files" button. In the window that pops up, check the box referring to deleting offline files as well, click OK.

That should clear up the "bmp only" problem.
