Greetings Oh wise ones:
MY old Mobo failed and I got a new Biostar M7NCD Pro, and AMD XP 2600 Athlon CPU,
new CDROM, new Best Data 56HP 92 Modem, and am using my original HDD WITH win 98.
Had Backed up HD Files to 2nd HD, and uninstalled and reinstalled WIN 98 as the original installation
had become unstable. Now have a few problems, the principal one being:
The new modem won't install. COM 3 has disappeared, only COM 1 and 2 on system. I keep getting
Error "Required DLL file Missing MSVBVM60.DLL ". I have downloaded and UnZipped this file and
installed it but the error persists. I am using Win 98 4.10.1998. Could this need upgrading? If so How?
Best Data's literature is not very helpful, neither is their Tech Help. Also No other modem, not even
the original Lucent modem will install and communicate.
Couple of other minor problems, but wont discuss these now........Modem's the problem.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I don't know what that file would have to do with your modem, it could have something to do with it. According to one page I found it said that it was the "Visual Basic Virtual Machine, v. 6.00.8964".

But anyway, try this...

Go into the BIOS and turn off COM2, then go else where in the BIOS and force what ever PCI slot you have the modem in to use IRQ3, this will put it on what used to be COM 2's IRQ.

If IRQ's 9, 10, or 11 are free you could use one of them instead of 3.

Also take a look in Device Manager for a folder called "Other Devices" and see if your modem showed up there, it would probably be called "PCI Communication Device" or something simular. After the proper drivers are installed it would then show up with it's real name.

Good luck.

I believe that is a WINMODEM it uses a Virtual Com Port Probably Com 4 or 5.

Is THIS (http://www.bestdata.com/techproducts.asp?pid=48) your modem??

If so try downloading the latest Drivers (http://www.bestdata.com/driver.asp?pid=48) for it.
