I've just finished upgrading my computer and have loaded WinXP Home as the operating system.

I don't have MS Office apps as I was hoping to try out Open Office as I've heard good things about it (and its free!)

Unfortunately, I was previously running Outlook from MS Office (rather than Outlook Express from the OS) as my email client so am currently unable to import all my old files/address books etc.

Can anyone help? I have saved all my old files as a pst file, also as a csv file and as a dBase file. However in Outlook express I only get the options of importing files from an existing program - which I obviously don't have on my new system.

I have also installed incredimail (also free) as I thought this might provide a solution, but so far its only been incredibly annoying. Can anyone recommend a good, free email client that isn't too gimmicky? Otherwise I guess I'll have to fork out for Outlook....

Any help very gratefully received!

There are good e-mail programs out there, like Pegasus and Eudora, just do a search for them. But to begin with, why not stick with the e-mail provider that your ISP works with? :)

Hi lufbra,

Thanks - but I really only downloaded incredimail to try to get round the problem I was having importing Outlook data into Outlook Express.

Is it possible import an Outlook .pst file into Express?

Thansk,

Sorry, can't help you there, maybe someone else can, you just have to understand that Outlook and Outlook Express are two different programs, and so not everything can be combined with each other! :)

If you have saved your address book as a csv file, you can import it Street66. Have a look here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/oe/importing.asp#section2).

Thanks Anne-Marie & Lufbra,

I managed to get round the problem my reloading my old system, importing all my files, address books etc. into Outlook Express from Outlook (it appears the problem was that as I don't have Outlook on my new system, Express couldn't read the files).

Then I transferred the files to my new hard drive and imported them into the new Op Sys Express.

Phew! All seems to be working well.

Might even give incredimail a go to see if it gets less annoying when you know how to drive it!
