A while back I signed up for one of those free 1and1.com plans. The site I'm trying to build is a picture site for my friends & family. Web design is totally new to me. Anyone have any ideas on how to best design a site like this? I know my question is a broad one, any replies will be appreciated.

The biggest thing to ask first is are you going to code manually or using wysiwyg software like ms frontpage? There are so many ways to do a photo album, I suggest using google and search using photo alblum as keywords and it will take you to many examples. Thie biggie is to use thumbnails if you are going to have multiple pictures on one page so those with dialup will not get bogged down downloading the page in order to view it.

One suggestion would be to look at any freeware website, for a program that creates a thumbnail page of your pictures, it will also create te html text that you'd need for your site!! :)

As the previous message stated...I forgot about that option... thumbsplus is a good one. It will do the pages for you. You can find it at www.download.com. You can find others by searching for thumbnails.

I'll look into thumbplus. Thanks. I will be using frontpage to create the site. I don't think size will be an issue. Everyone who will be visiting the site will be on cable/dsl or a work lan.

The last two versions of Frontpage has the photo album feature. Check fp help.

I haven't downloaded it yet but from what I've seen so far it looks interesting!
I used a commercial program for one of my photo albums but it was a bit to limited for my liking.
