I have a copy of xp pro with product key. How can I determine if it is a up grade or full install. Thanks

Let me explain. My orginial copy was destroyed, however I had the product key in my file and had someone copy a new one for me. Instead of buying a new op I thought this was legal. I can't afford to buy a new one. Any help??? Thanks

Then you need to get with the person you got the copy from and find out.

Try to install the CD, (I am assuming that your hard drive is going to be formatted before you install it) while it is installing one of two things will happen:

1: It will install successfully and you can start using it.

2: It will either say your keycode is invalid (the Full and Upgrade CD's have different codes) or it will say that it cannot find your current operating system and ask you to insert your Windows 95, 98, or Millenium CD to continue.

If number two happens you will know that it is an "Upgrade" CD.
