I came across this:

The unreadable disc
Q. Why do I get read errors when I insert a disc into my CD-ROM drive?

A. Read errors are quite common with CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW media. Start with the basics: Make sure the disc is clean. Scratches, dust, and fingerprints can easily cause read problems, so gently clean the disc according to manufacturer's recommendations and try again.

Other common causes: You're trying to read a Mac-formatted disc in a PC drive. That'll generate an error, for sure. To read a Mac disc, you'll need a third-party utility, such as DataViz's MacOpener 2000. If you're trying to read a CD-RW, make sure you've installed a UDF reader. If Roxio's DirectCD program is installed, you're set. If not, download a free UDF reader. Finally, make sure you haven't inserted a blank CD-R in the drive; that could result in an error as well.

Some poorly made discs can cause read errors, so try other discs or discs from different manufacturers. If you still encounter read errors with other discs (regardless of manufacturer), there may be trouble with the drive mechanism. Double-check the drive's power and signal cable connections, then test another drive and see if the errors still occur.

thought it might give you an idea as to whats wrong with "D" drive.

Hi Shelby, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

All that means is you didn't have a CD in the CD-ROM drive at the time of the debug.
