I use Roxio v. 5 (with update) to burn copies of my photographs to a cd. On one with a considerable number of photos on it, when I tried to retrieve them, none of my CDROM's (DVD burner, CD burner, standard CDROM) could read it.

I used the feature in Roxio that allows attempted recovery of data on a cd to try Repair and Recover files from the cd. Roxio scanned the disk, found numerous errors on it, and suggested I copy recovered files from the disk. I clicked ok, and it appeared to copy most of them to a disk in another burner.

Hoping to be able to then access the photos, I found a LOT of files on the second disk, but with a file extension of ".rec", which I'm unable to open. So far, I've been unable to find any information on this file extension that will allow me to open any of them. (I've searched Roxio's support site as well as using Google to search for that file extension on the internet)

Any information will be appreciated, since these photographs are ones I've made of my grandchildren for the past seven years and can't be replaced.

FYI
This probably should be a separate post, but all the cd's I've had this problem with are ones which have had labels attached (using a "labeling kit"). CD's I've identified with magic markers have given me no problems at all. I recently read a couple of articles concerning labels that are attached to cd's with adhesive on the labels, and it seems I'm not the only one having this problem. It appears the adhesive on the labels damages the cd's.
