I Installed a new modem in my new pc.
I installed win98se.
Everthing is 100% when I dail up untill it connects with the ISP. It seems like the connection never takes place and the whole system just freezes/hangs. There is nothing that I can do. I have to switch it off at the wall.
I need to fix this asap.

Thanx

Hi ockron, welcome to the forum.

What sort of Modem is it? (Make & model).

If this is a new modem what was wrong with the old one?

Hi there Smurfy and thanx.

Wel I built a new PC for my son, installed win98se, because I had it.
Everything worked fine untill one of his friends stuffed it up. Insisted that his father have it repaired as he is responsible.
I was informed by the shop that worked on it that they replaced the mobo. It now has a Viaconnect P4X266 Series.
The Processor is an Duron 900.

Hi, Welcome to Cybertech.

Like Smurfy mentioned above, What kind of Modem is it?

Here is just something to try. Go to Start/Run/type msconfig/ go to the startup tab. Uncheck all unneeded applications. Leave Scanregistry, system tray, mouse and keyboard if applicable.... Then reboot to let the settings take, then try the system out....
