Well, since I can't get IE 6 to work properly, I have decided to just reinstall windows. I would like to know which is the best way to go about doing this. I was thinking about doing a clean install by formatting the hard drive and installing from dos, since I have experience in installing that way. However, is there any way to reinstall windows without having to reinstall all of my applications? On the Microsoft support site, they say you can just run setup.exe from within Windows. Is this safe to do? Or is there a better way?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Reinstalling Windows over the top of a previous installation is referred to as a Repair install.
This may replace any corrupted files and will keep all of your files, settings & applications. But it is not a Clean install.
If you want to clean out your system you really need a Clean install, which means Backing up your data, Formatting the Drive and Installing a Clean version of Windows.
You will then have to install your applications & setup it all up again.

Re-installing Windows 98 over the top of itself, will cause you many problems, unless you uninstall IE first. IE is really intregrated into Windows when installed, many shared files.
Obviously a "Clean Install" is the best way, but then you would loose all of your data.
