Hi dickster,
Had you made any changes to your CD-ROM? In BIOS make
sure the settings for IDE are set for auto detect.
The error you show is usually associated to the CD-ROM. You
might also try reinstalling the driver for the CD-ROM by removing
it from device manager and rebooting.

Thanks for reply. Hadn't made any changes to cd-rom. Did install CD-RW. Since the last time I had to do full restore, everything seems to be working. Going through msconfig, and shutting one startup program at a time. Hope to find out what was causing. problem. BTW... was not using cd-rom at the time these fatal errors occured. Again, thanks or the help!!

Ok, if your computer is running fairly well and the BSOD(blue screen of death)
only rears it's ugly head every once in awhile then the next thing
I would ask is if the BSOD shows during the same function you perform?
In other words, is the BSOD happening when you open Word, or shut
down the computer, or close Outlook. Can you see a pattern?
It's smells like a confused registry. A computer (running WindowsXX) can
become unstable if the registry contains numerous unlinkable files and/or
calls on shared libraries for programs that no longer exist, file fragments, etc.
Registry cleaners are very good for avoiding situations like this especially
if one does a lot of Add/Remove Programs and uninstalls.
I never met an uninstall script I liked. The registry cleaners help clear out
things that can be left behind in the registry.
I think what you are experiencing is basic instability. Hardware changes,
uninstalls, and updating anything can create some instability in WindowsXX.
A good way to avoid this instability is to get a good third party uninstaller
program and a quality registry cleaner.
I prefer Mcafee Uninstaller (http://www.mcafee-at-home.com/products/uninstaller/default.asp?m=3) for uninstalling and the version I have also has a registry cleaner among many other useful system
maintenance procedures.

Thanks for the response. The problem started after a crash, and fdisk/reformat. BSOD seems to only happen if I double click IE to connect to net. If I use shortcut for my ISP from dun, and then double click IE, works ok. Ran Norton utilities Find and Repair, so hoping that eliminated some of my problems. Appreciate all the help, and with my computer luck, should be back here very soon!! :)

Sometimes a reinstall of IE will cure these crash-created
BSODs. Try reinstalling the version of Internet Explorer (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp)
you have. This may help. If there are some corrupted
files then this will overwrite them.

BSOD showed it's ugly face again. Seems to only happen when I try to access the net. Was able to overwrite Win98, and got me going again, but that isn't right! Downloaded and printed instructions for fdisk/format/load OS from Theoran's site. If it happens again, will got through it one more time. If that doesn't help, will do some baseball bat mechanics to it!!
Thanks for all the help, and HOPE to see you guys soon!! :)
