We have put this hard drive into my Win 98 machine to get data off of it. Upon reboot the computer does and automatic scan disk on the hard drive and it always gets stuck at 15% and makes these really weird sounds. I think/know that there is an error on the drive and I really wanna know how to fix it! Please Help! Thanks!

Hi Squrrrl, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.
You can hit your ENTER key on the keyboard and avoid going
through the scandisk procedure.
If it's only data you want to recover then just concern yourself
with booting up with the hard drive recognized.
Also, you said put this hard drive into my Win 98 machine. Does
that mean you removed a working hard drive with Windows98 and
put this known bad hard drive in it's place? Or, Did you add this know
bad hard drive as a slave(second hard drive) to the computer your
trying to get this hard drive to work?
What make and model is the hard drive?
What size is the hard drive?
What kind of processor(CPU, Pentium, Celeron, AMD, etc) and what
speed is the processor?

I know how to get out of the scan but I want to fix the problem.
I added the bad hard drive as a slave(second hard drive) to the computer.
I don't know the make and model of the hard drive.
It is a 30gig
Im runnning a P3 667 gig processor.
Basically it is my BF hardrive and I want to fix it as a suprise for him! :)
Thanks! :p

Remove the data from the hardrive for safekeeping. Try to find the make of the drive by any identifying markings or looking in device manager. Download the diagnostic and repair utility from the hardrive's manufacturer. If it is a 30gig drive, it is not like you are trying to find the maker of an antique drive.

Squrrrl,
A telltale sign that your hard drive is close to going to hard drive heaven or already is there is when ScanDisk starts locking up in DOS. ScanDisk locks up in Windows all the time due to applications running in the background as well as other factors. In DOS, you're not worrying about background apps or screensavers popping up.
I would follow sedu's advice and save all of the important data on the bad hard drive to a CDR or another hard drive and go out and get yourself a new hard drive before it's too late and the bad hard drive finally decides it's had enough.
