View Full Version : Problem after bad driver load

I updated some sound drivers and the computer had problems during the middle of it. When it came back I couldn't access the control panel from the start menu (it would pop up like 5 minutes later and the bar at the bottom of the screen would be inactive during this time) and when it tried to shut down various things would apparently still be running (CRTCCLIENT was one of them). I fixed the driver problem but these issues are still there. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Reddman27, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

A botched driver update is not a good thing, especially if it created
a crash or lockup on your computer.
I fixed the driver problem but these issues are still there.
The first step would be to bootup in DOS-Mode and at the prompt
type scanreg /restore. Pick a date prior to the audio driver update
attempt and reboot. This will restore your registry to the old audio drivers
setup so that you could try re-installing the new drivers again.

If this is unsuccessful then you'll have to reinstall Windows. You won't
lose anything but will have an outdated Internet Explorer and some
outdated Windows files. These can be brought up-2-date by doing the
Windows Update through the Start button menu or Internet Explorer's
menu under Help. You want Windows Update.

If you need more directions on Windows Update let us know and
we'll be glad to post that procedure.

Edited for UBB code error
