Hi,
I just got this computer. It is a refurbished Compaq. I am still checking it out. Had a bad modem so the guy I bought it from put another modem in it. The problem is that I have been getting a blue screen which says "there was an error in file VMM01". It has happened mostly while dialing up to get online but has happened a few times when I wasn't dialing up also. Anyhow, it says "hit any key to continue", so I do and, when brought back to my desktop, it is resized to GIGANTIC and it moves around with the mouse. I have to reboot to restore my appearance settings. I uninstalled the accesibility features thinking the magnifier might be causing the problem but it happened again tonight.
Any suggestions?
Angie

Hi Angelina,

When you next receive the error message, take note of the exact wording of it and post it here. Also, when you get the error, is it a full blue screen that appears or a smaller error window? If the smaller error window, there may be a Details button that you can click on to see further details of the error.....post what it says for Details.

Hey Greta,
I think those were the exact words. "There was an error in file VMM 01" It is the large blue screen. No option but to press any key to continue or reboot. I have a funny feeling it is the mouse driver causing the problem. It has the yellow exclamation point in Device MGR. I removed it and unplugged my mouse from the back and rebooted so I could install my mouse driver but, when I reboot, Windows detects this PS/2 mouse (that I do not have) and reinstalls the wrong driver again. I think I'll bring it back to the guy who sold it to me tomorrow and see what he can do.
Thanks,
Angie

If the guy is able to solve the problem, please let us know what had to be done to solve it.

Well, it took longer to get back to the post than I thought it would. The computer guy thought it was the ram so he ordered some fresh ram. (I had 128mb and he replaced it with new 128 MB) It took two weeks to get here and he just put it in yesterday. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. Oh yeah, in the past two weeks while waiting for the Ram to come in, he resolved the mouse conflict but that didn't help either. Don't know what to do. I am getting "Windows protection error" screen so often these days and sometimes I have to wait till the next day before I can get back to my desktop. Sometimes the "step by step confirmation" gets me to my desktop but once, after an hour of trying, I finally gave up till the next day when the "step by step confirmation" got me in. I brought this thing back to the guy so many times. I thought for sure the new ram was gonna solve it.
Anyhow, wish it was better news,
Angie
