Boot up problems
Hi,
A few days ago while running windows I received a blue screen error message, so I rebooted an I ended up with an error message reported by dos about compression drivers not getting loaded, in any event, after a lot of turmoil, I ended up having to use a boot disk and formatted my drive and reinstalled windows from CD. Problem is, that when it tries to boot, it just freezes before it can get to the boot menu or the "Starting Windows 98" text display, unless I use a boot disk. I've done FDISK /MBR, and I've even double checked the msdos.sys file on the harddrive. What else could be wrong that would cause it to freeze when booting directly from? Booting from floppy, is also causing me difficulties in installing some software. (such as ICQ) Please help, thanks

Hi there,
Ya know what I'd do. Format once again and reinstall windows. Only this time have only the video card installed. Get windows installed and video drivers installed correctly and working good. Then add any other cards, one at a time, making sure that each is installed correctly with no conflicts of any kind, before installing the next card. This way is one of the best ways I have found to install an MS operating system. Make sure you have all of the hardward installation disks with drivers on hand when installing hardware. Oh, yeah...make sure you install any motherboard drivers as soon as you get windows installed. [ 30 March 2001: Message edited by: Junky ] |
