missing files

Hi all
Let's retry, dammed thing timed out last time..

This thread was great. I had the exact same startup problem.

Solution #1 was done, the error messages remained (perhaps to disappear after doing #2). In doing #2, when trying to figure out where to extract msnp32.dll to, I found a folder created the day of my boo-boo (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Q312339) with 100 files. All the missing files were there.

There is a file called Qrestore (dos name QRESTORE.REG) that is a "Registraton Entries" file (also in the above directory). It brings up a bolded MERGE command as first choice on the right click menu. It has one of those half built cube "action" icons.

Will this file restore my missing files, including those I didn't know about?

If this is not an option, where exactly should I extract msnp32.dll to in my windows directories (...\system ??)

Thanks for any help, it has been already (my isp tech help, the modem people, said I would likely have to reload windows...... glad I looked elsewhere)

Hi fenderbender,
I've split your topic from this thread . I don't have much time right now to respond, as I have to go to work, but suffice it to say that yes, you'd extract msnp32.dll to C:\Windows\System folder

Hi GretaP

Thanks for the reply. I'm just peeking in from work.

I'm waiting to either run Qrestore which will (hopefully) restore the system the way it was before my modem boo-boo. I started another thread this am

http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/...ad.php?t=28434

OR I will use the two solutions you suggested (in MistahMan's thread). I am a bit nervous to do only this, because of the other 96 files that were "moved" that I wasn't aware of.

Murf kindly suggested using SFC to check for corrupted files... I'm following that up now in the above thread, but I'm still in the process of clarifying this.
I'm hoping SFC will find all files needed (will take care of the other 96 files)

Rick

Hi fenderbender,
Sorry I hadn't responded back, but I haven't been on much the past couple of days (had medical procedure done, which caused a fair amount of discomfort plus I slept a lot).

I'm so glad that you were able to get the issues resolved, and I'll have a look at the other thread that you mentioned
