Floppy Disk Question

I was wondering if someone could answer this question for me

I know that each time a PC computer boots it attempts to read the floppy disk drive to verify if a disk is in the drive and if present it attempts to boot from that diskette, I was wondering if it is possible to stop the PC from doing that on each startup?
