Unhappy Error:Comp has less than the min req extended mem

Hello,

Really sorry to start a new topic, especially with ALL of the incredible info in the "Sticky" topic, but I searched and did "find on page" for help with the problem I'm having and didn't find it. So, I'll describe below - to see if anybody is able to help me?

We have 2 computers for the kids. New XP for Christmas and an old generic one off eBay that is nearly 3 years old - it's a Win98SE.

I am trying to format/wipe the hard drive on the Win98SE unit, but i'm having problems with the bootdisk (I got it from bootdisk.com, the folks that provided a link to THIS site). I tested the boot disk on the kids XP unit and was able to see the CD drive by typing d: at the command prompt.

On the Win98SE unit it actually seemed to ignore that the disk was even IN the drive - so I cut out to the command prompt (windows doesn't load on that machine anymore at all). Typed in a: and was able to see the files on the floppy by typing DIR. So, I typed in autoexec

Here's the message it gave me and I am unable to see the CD drive. All I get is "invalid drive specification" when typing d: *and by the way, when I type HELP it says bad command or file name"

Thanks for ANY possible help that anybody can provide... I will be TRULY grateful.

Preparing to start your computer
This may take a few minutes, please wait.

The Windows 98 startup disk could not create a temporary drive for the
diagnostic tools. This may be because this computer has less than the
minimum required extended memory.

Path not found - :\command.com
Path not found - :\extract.exe
Path not found - :\readme.txt
Bad command or file name
The diagnostic tools were successfully loaded ito drive .

File not found

The easiest way to get your boot diskette working would probably to go into the PC's BIOS setup and make sure that it is set to boot from A: first, then C:

You should see a message similar to the following when booting:

Press 'xxx' to enter setup

Where 'xxx' is something like <DEL> (delete key) or F1 (F1 function key), etc.
